Amazon's private label equipment and electronics bearing the AmazonBasics logo have been found to catch fire, melt, or explode, according to the report. The private label launched back in 2009 has more than 5,000 products in online markets. Most of those products are usually listed in the “Amazon Choice” list and appear more than their counterparts from other brands to attract consumers. AmazonBasics is not limited to a specific product category and includes products ranging from batteries and cords to bags, safe storage, and microwave ovens. The brand also sells its product list in India - alongside the US, UK, and other global markets.
In more than 1,500 reviews of the Amazon site in the US, many consumers have listed AmazonBasics products as dangerous, with terms such as "risk" and "fire", according to a CNN poll.
Major US e-commerce told CNN that "security is a priority" for the company and took many steps to ensure that all AmazonBasics products are safe and high quality. However, the publication found in its analysis that various products, including USB cable and microwave oven, under the label of a private label are said to have quality and safety issues.
Amazon Faces New Challenge To Prevent Rejection From Indian Online Traders
To understand this issue at one point, CNN found an inefficient microwave for Amazon customers and sent it to the failure board analysis board at the University of Maryland's Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE). Experiments found a problem in the creation of a microwave heating panel that could lead to fire.
In another case, an AmazonBasics protector was found to be on fire. It is located next to the customer's 9-month-old son's crèche. Interestingly, more than 40 customers reported that the product had caught fire before Amazon removed it from the site. The same major product brand reportedly had only six updates on potential security concerns in online markets, representing 0.07 percent of its more than 8,000 reviews.
The publication also highlighted the case when a USB cable with the AmazonBasics brand ignited and melted when it was used to charge the phone. The issue, which is believed to be a short-lived district, has fueled the high profile of the office chair.
New Amazon Offers Make India Fintech Push Center
Three Amazon employees have told CNN that most of the electronic products under the AmazonBasics brand are made in China. Most of them are available for purchase in India.
Amazon itself publicly commemorates 2,60,000 AmazonBasics electricity banks in the US with reports of fires and burns in March 2018. Similarly, it remembers air heaters last year, after receiving complaints about extreme heat, heat and explosion, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. (CPSC). The company, however, has never publicly acknowledged the limitations on its products with more than two official titles.
Inefficiency and overheating are not uncommon in the case of electronic products. However, the number of AmazonBasics products found to have such problems looks alarming.
